Make Space’s Guide to UK Christmas ShoppingPosted on December 17th, 2016 by Make Space
Shopping. Whether it’s your favourite pastime or something you associate only with an annual, last-minute scramble for Christmas presents, it is an unavoidable part of life at this time of year. But if you can find the right places to go (and a comfy pair of shoes!), Christmas shopping can make for a great day out and really get you in the festive spirit! So here’s our guide to the best places for yuletide shopping in the UK.
Oxford Street, London
We’ll admit. It will be busy. It will be tiring. But if a proper shopping spree is what you’re after, it will be worth it. Oxford Street’s shops are open from 9:30am-9:00pm, and famously include Debenhams, House of Fraser, John Lewis, and Selfridges, but if none of these tickle your fancy, then fear not, the 1.2-mile-long street will certainly have something for you. The renowned street is known for its enchanting NSPCC Christmas Lights display, making it a delightful festive day out at this time of year.
Bath Christmas Markets
Boasting the biggest Christmas market in the UK, plus gorgeous Georgian architecture and cosy cafés, Bath is the perfect destination for your festive shopping. 177 individual wooden stalls line the route around Bath Abbey, offering up all kinds of Christmassy delights… from crafts, to knitwear, even locally brewed ales and gins! If you’re the kind of person who likes to avoid big brands when you can, then Manchester may well be the independent shopping haven you’ve been dreaming of. In the Northern Quarter, you’ll find the excellent vintage shops of Oldham Street, Tib Street and Thomas Street, as well as plenty of cute coffee shops to shelter from the winter winds when the Christmas shopping fatigue starts to set in. And if you’ve been struggling to find inspiration for a particular friend or relative, you’re guaranteed to find something great in Affleck’s Palace.
